:PAKISTAN: The blast in the country’s Bajur district killed at least 40 people and wounded more than 100, according to local officials

District police officer Nazir Khan said 40 people were killed and more than 130 injured. Riaz Anwar, the health minister for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, said 44 people had been confirmed killed and over 100 wounded.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack, but local authorities said the explosion was caused by a suicide bomb.

The official said that soon after the blast, relief operations were in progress and shifted the bodies and injured to a nearby hospital and the officials of the law enforcement and security forces cordoned off the entire area.

He said among the injured, 15 people were in critical condition and many of the injured are being shifted to Peshawar.

The death toll might be increased along with dozens of other injured, the official said.

Blast took place around 4pm: JUI-F KP spokesperson

JUI-F Khyber Pakhtunkhwa spokesperson Abdul Jalil Khan, told Geo News, that the explosion took place at around 4pm as Maulana Laeeq was addressing the convention. He added that 10kg of explosives were used in the blast and ball bearings were found from the crime scene

He added that the investigation teams are collecting evidence from the site of the blast.

IG Frontier Corps (FC) Major General Noor Wali Khan has reached Bajaur to supervise the situation. Meanwhile, CMH Peshawar has been put on an alert and a rescue operation by the security forces and other law enforcement agencies is underway.

The provincial spokesperson said that JUI-F MNA Maulana Jamaluddin and Senator Abdul Rasheed were also present during the convention. He confirmed that one of the dead includes JUI-F’s Tehsil Khar Amir Maulana Ziaullah.

Fazlur Rehman condemns bomb blast on JUI-F convention in Bajaur

Chief of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) Maulana Fazlur Rehman on Sunday strongly condemned a bomb blast at a convention of JUI-F in Bajaur and expressed grief and sorrow over the tragic incident.

In a statement issued by the party’s media cell, he prayed the Allah Almighty to raise the ranks of martyrs and for speedy recovery of the injured.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman also appealed to JUI-F workers to immediately rush to hospitals and provide blood donations to the victims.

He sought an inquiry into the explosion from Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government.

Senator Sherry Rehman condemns JUI-F workers convention blast in Bajaur

Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, Senator Sherry Rehman on Sunday strongly condemned the blast at Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) workers convention in Bajaur district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

In her statement here, the federal minister expressed solidarity with the families of those martyred in the attack and the entire JUI-F.

She also prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured workers JUI.

The Minister who is also Pakistan People’s Party vice president directed the People’s Party workers to join blood donation and relief work.

She said the terrorist attack on political activism was very alarming.
