:SYRIA: Nine civilians among 60 fatalities, mostly officers, in airstrikes by unknown drones targeting graduation ceremony in Homs

A drone attack on a military college in Syria’s Homs province during a graduation ceremony has killed and wounded civilians and military personnel, according to Syrian officials.

Drones laden with explosives targeted the ceremony on Thursday as it came to an end, Syria’s military said in a statement. They accused fighters “backed by known international forces” for the attack.

Syria’s defence minister attended the graduation ceremony but left minutes before the attack.

Sources have confirmed that the number of deaths in airstrikes by unknown drones on the military school in Homs has exceeded 60, nine civilians, including a woman and a little girl of the officers’ relatives, were among the deaths.

In addition, 120 other people were injured, tens of whom sustained serious injuries.

The Injured people were taken to the military hospital in Homs city, Al-Basel hospital, Al-Ahliah hospital and Al-Razi hospital, amid unconfirmed reports on the death of some of them, affected by their injuries.

Ambulances were seen rushing to the site of the attack to transport the injured officers to the military hospital.

It is worth noting that regime forces were seeing the graduation of a new batch of officers in the military school, where the ceremony was attended by commanders of the Syrian army and the regime Minister of Defence.

Syria has strongly condemned the heinous terrorist crime that targeted a graduation ceremony for the Military Academy cadets in Homs through drones.

“As part of the brutal attacks perpetrated by the U.S. occupation-backed terrorist groups to destabilize situation in Syria, the terrorist organizations on Thursday, October 5, targeted a graduation ceremony for the Military academy cadets in Homs through drones, claiming the lives and injuring tens of civilians and military men,” Foreign and Expatriates Ministry said in a statement.

“The Syrian Arab Republic condemns, in the strongest terms, that heinous crime which shows that their perpetrators have gone far beyond in their bloody method from which the Syrian people have suffered for many years,” the Ministry added.

It said that the government of Syrian Arab Republic calls on the UN and security Council to condemn that cowardly attack and to apply relevant international resolutions, on top, no. 1267, 1989, 2170, 2178, 2195 and 2253.
