Ukraine war: 16 killed in missile attack on market town – Zelensky on Russian attack on Kostiantynivka: Unfortunately, death toll may rise

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Wednesday a Russian strike on a market in east Ukraine had killed more than a dozen people and wounded more, as U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken was visiting Kyiv.
“At this moment, the artillery of Russian terrorists has killed 16 people in the city of Kostyantynivka, Donetsk region. A regular market. Shops. A pharmacy. People who did nothing wrong. Many wounded,” Zelensky said in a post on social media.
The number of those injured in an enemy attack on the central market in Kostiantynivka, Donetsk region, has grown to 34.
Head of the Ukrainian President’s Office Oleksiy Kuleba said this in a post on Telegram, Ukrinform reports.
“As of now, at least 16 people have been killed, and another 34 have been wounded and injured. All emergency services and the military administration are working at the scene. All the necessary assistance is being provided to the victims,” Kuleba said.
Tetiana Ihnatchenko, the head of the communications department at the Donetsk Regional Military Administration, told an Ukrinform correspondent that information whether a child was among those 16 killed had not been confirmed yet. “There is no confirmation about the child,” she said.
According to Kuleba, the Russian invaders purposefully hit a civilian facility, because they are not capable of resisting the Defense Forces of Ukraine, so they resort to their usual criminal and cynical methods.
“Eternal memory to the dead and sincere condolences to the relatives. Cynicism and inhumanity are the real regime and policy of Russia at all times,” he added.
As reported by Ukrinform, on Wednesday, September 6, Russian invaders hit the central market in Kostiantynivka, Donetsk region. It was earlier reported about 16 dead and five wounded.
Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal earlier said that a child was among those killed in the enemy attack on Kostyantynivka.

Kostyantynivka is a frontline town of an estimated 70,000 people in the eastern industrial region of Donetsk, which has been the epicenter of fighting since Russia launched its invasion in February 2022.
Donetsk has been partially controlled by Kremlin-backed separatists since 2014 and Russia claimed to have annexed the region alongside three others late last year.

The head of state reported this on the Telegram messaging app, according to Ukrinform.
“At this moment, the attack by Russian terrorists has killed 16 people in the city of Kostiantynivka, Donetsk region. A regular market. Shops. A pharmacy. People who did nothing wrong. Many wounded. Unfortunately, the number of casualties and the injured may rise. My condolences to all who have lost loved ones!” Zelensky said.
According to him, when someone in the world still attempts to deal with anything Russian, it means turning a blind eye to this reality.
“The audacity of evil. The brazenness of wickedness. Utter inhumanity,” Zelensky said.
He added that this Russian evil must be defeated as soon as possible.
